The gadget uses the waves to help drugs get into the eye without the need for painful injections.
The treatment by SonoEye is an Australian invention which replaces the need for patients to get monthly injections into the affected eyes for their macular degeneration. Having the disease is already causing a lot of uneasiness, more so since the regular treatments will require patients to have monthly injections into each affected eye to preserve their sight.
Researchers at the Centre for Eye Research in Australia are set to begin testing of the world's first needleless device for delivering drugs to the eyeball without injections.
Not only does this allow some sufferers of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) to avoid having to undergo monthly eyeball injections, but it could also be used on other parts of the body.
